12 weeks

Program details
 

Pre-regulation
4 week basic (- for all actions) “CFRS”
• Cleaning-Friction-Repairs-Straighten
• Center pin changing and friction stability
• Cleaning, Lubricating and correcting friction.
• Repairs... basic
• Alignments – making things straight and even.
• Keyboard bushings
• Keyboard leveling
• Keyboard dip
• Keyboard weighting
• Verifying the thickness, and correcting the sole of the key
• Introduction to tuning (20 hours 2h/day, starting week 3)
• Workshop organisation
• Tool maintenance (basic)

Upright pianos - regulation and maintenance
3 weeks
• Including capstans (blow distance), dip, let-off, spoons , back checks
• Introduction to tuning, 2 hrs every day. ETD

Practicing-experience
Students are expected to practice skills for at least the same amount of
time after each course... (at a workshop or store) before they start the
next course.

Grand pianos - regulation & maintenance
3 Weeks
• Fitting the key frame to the key bed Yamaha style , (explain flexible & stiff key frames)
• Aligning hammers to strings Yamaha style .
• Learning the two ways of thinking to prepare for regulating: ( 2:4:3, synchronization & verification )
• Touch weight bench (Fandrich-Rhodes TWB)
• Regulations, blow distance, let-off, drop, after-touch, synchronization, reconciliation. Back-checking. Preliminary hammer/string fitting.
• Introduction to ear tuning: 2hrs a day.

Grand pianos - action repairs
2 Weeks
• Damper felt changing
• Pedal, lyre and trap work repairs regulation, and lubrication .
• Damper regulation, yamaha style
• Una corda Yamaha style
• Ear tuning : 2hrs a day
